The phrase “so be it” used to say that one is resigned to the fact that one can do nothing to change something:

  • If he insists on going, so be it.
  • If she wants to spend all her money on shopping, so be it.
  • Sue realized she was the only victim on the program. Well, so be it.


A discussion between two friends

  • Friend1: I was really looking forward to dinner on Saturday, but I’m flying to Bangkok on Friday.
  • Friend2: What are you talking about? My family has been excited to see you.
  • Friend1: I’m afraid I can’t catch up on scheduled. I’m really really sorry.
  • Friend2: If you can’t make it, so be it.
