So + 형용사 / 부사 + that + 결과

결과의 의미를 전달할 때 'so + 형용사/부사 + that'을 사용할 수 있다. 이 표현은 일어난 일이 너무 심하다고 생각하는 경우 사용하기도 한다. 'That'은 구어체에서 자주 생략된다:

• My son's room was so untidy (that) he could not find anything he was looking for.
• She is so beautiful (that) I can't get my eyes off her.
• That machine works so loudly (that) I have a headache.

 

So + many / few + 복수명사 + that + 결과ㅣso + much/little + 셀수없는명사 + that + 결과

결과의 의미를 표현할 때 'so + 수량사 + that'을 사용한다:

• The son had so many toys (that) he could not decide which to play.
• He has so few friends (that) he always spends time watching TV at home.
• She eats so much sugar (that) she may be a diabetic.
• There was so little food (that) many people died of hunger.

 

Such + 형용사 + 명사 + that + 결과

결과의 의미를 전달할 때 'such + 형용사 + 명사 + that'을 사용한다:

• She has such beautiful eyes (that) I can't take my eyes off her.
• He was such a good student (that) many teachers liked him.
• It was such a good movie (that) many people watched it.

 

Such + 판단을 의미하는 명사 + that + 결과

결과의 의미를 전달할 때 'such + 판단을 의미하는 명사 + that'을 사용한다. 이 표현은 극단적인 감정이나 의견을 표현할 때 사용하기도 한다:

• None is such a fool (that) he loves death.
• The infant is such a cutie (that) his family loves him.
